I'm not really sure what it is that triggers the appreciation, but sometimes I just have those moments. Riding in the car through my new town holding my boyfriends hand, knowing that even though we don't make much, we still have each other. It's a wonderful feeling.
With everything going on in the world, the economy collapsing, hate and killing going on, it shakes you awake sometimes to the beauty of your own life. You look back and see where you came from and see yourself now and think, "I built this." Out of pain and confusion, the loneliness of fear, and that horrible period of teen angst from a broken family, you see your life building. Every choice that you've made and all the work you put into your life to get you where you are, places you in the life that you are in now and that which you have built for yourself.
Not only that, but you see and understand that the ride isn't over. You still have the freedom of choice and the power of hard work ahead of you to take you anywhere you wish from this point forward, as well.
Marriage? A family? I have my best friend that I wake up to every day. He works with me to maintain the lifestyle we have created.
Promotions? School? I have the power of myself and my own ambitions to push me along and secure me.
Friendships and Networking. I have the intertwining of all of my friends that care for each other and help each other out. These relationships still have room to grow as well as expand. Boosting your connection with not only each other, but the world, itself.
It's these things that work hand in hand every day that make me realize how lucky I am.
